A Mint Condition Gen 1 Audi A4 in Jaspis Green Spotted in the Philippines

    The first iteration of the Audi A4, one of the most iconic German sedans of the 90's. The A4 represented a major shift in Audi's brand. Besides a change in the nomenclature system, the A4 showcased its take on luxury, facing on the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Conservative, yet timeless in design and styling, the more radical developments occurred internally within the car's inner workings. This really marked Audi's turning point as an automaker.


    Developed at a cost of $1.2 billion, the A4 made its first step in late 1994. Built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Passat, it had a simple front-engined, front-wheel drive design, available in two variants, the saloon version and the estate version. The A4 was made available with numerous engines, however, the one fitted in the feature presentation was a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine, capable of producing over 120 brake horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. This gave it a top speed of 205 km/h, worrying many BMW and Benz enthusiasts.


    The A4 here was part of its late 90's facelift, featuring many cosmetic changes but generally keeping its internalities. However, this did not hinder its reputation for advancements, with its aluminum front-link suspension making the car extremely light and making its handling firm as a fist. It even became 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor.


    All this added to its horse-like reliability, comfortable interior, and perfect size for a compact luxury sedan was the formula responsible for Audi's success. Its strategic move towards the segment for luxury cars, followed by the A4 proved a massive success, offering features, new technology, and build quality critically claimed by the press became a benchmark for its newer models. Nowadays, the old A4's remaining numbers are almost always seen in mint and excellent condition for a 25 year old car.
