A Massive Beige 2003 Hummer H2 in the Philippines

This massive full-size truck was seen parked next to the local dry cleaners. Unlike most early 2000's vehicles made by General Motors, this one was obviously taken care of, like a cute puppy.

This beastly SUV was produced by AM General, the creators of the original Hummer H1 and the Humvee, under the supervision of GM. It was in production from 2002 until 2009, when GM filed for bankruptcy. Hummers, such as these, were sold here locally, imported through the grey market to Port Irene in Cagayan, right before being transported all the way to Quezon City to its only dealership, on G. Araneta Avenue, now a lot presenting an empty grass field, after being closed down.

The Hummer H2 featured a large 6.0 liter V8 engine, capable of producing at least 325 horsepower. This huge and gas-devouring engine was placed on a heavily modified GMT820 platform, used by other GM cars such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and the Cadillac Escalade. Because of this truck's massive weight and engine, its recorded fuel consumption was between a measly 9 to 10 mpg, or in metric terms, 3.8 to 4.6 kilometers for every liter of gas.

This Hummer still retained its original Hummer rims and oversized tires, capable of overcoming mud bogs and extreme terrain.

Reading "HUMMER" in all capital letters, above two tow hooks, was featured in the rear bumper of the vehicle, as a reminder for drivers behind it in case they forgot what you were driving. Another sticker reading "Maharlika" was pasted on the car's rear window, lessening an already lessened rear view of the back for whoever's driving. In my opinion, you wouldn't want to parallel park this vehicle.

And on its side, measuring about 200 inches, showcased its large cabin, rivaling those seen in Boeings or Airbuses. Its small painted side mirrors unfortunately looked dissonant compared to the rest of the truck.

Despite the Hummer's shortcomings, it was a very much sought after car around here then, in spite of never being too popular or common. It used to be seen occassionally being plated with bulletproof armor for local politicians or being driven to rich neighborhood grocery stores for the weekly supermarket shopping trip. Sadly, these cars started to disappear after the Hummer stopped its sales here, due to its poor fuel economy and lack of practicality because of its large size.

However, in 2020, GM has resurrected the Hummer as a sub-brand for their new EV. Whether their soon-to-be-sold SUV will be marketed here, is yet to be known
